New West looking for artist-in-residence opportunities

New Westminster, BC – The City of New Westminster is exploring the opportunity of hosting 5 – 6 professional international artists from Latin America, the UK, Northern Europe, ASIA and BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) nations in 2014 – 2015 for an “Artist Residency” program as part of the Vancouver Biennale.

Sixty artists will be invited by the Vancouver Biennale curatorial team to live and work in Metro Vancouver for a 4 – 6 week period, creating an unprecedented opportunity for cultural exchange with local artists.  The outcome of these residencies is that artworks will be co-created during these collaborations between visiting and local artists, which will become legacy pieces for the City.

The City of New Westminster’s Arts & Cultural Services department is ideally looking for a New Westminster resident or developer who can offer up a large house, loft, studio, condo or other accommodation which can handle up to 3 – 5 artists for a 4 – 6 week period.  The artists’ expenses will be covered by the Vancouver Biennale, and there is no cost to the host who is providing the accommodation.

“This is a unique opportunity for the local arts community, as well as residents and art aficionados in the city, to take part in an innovative and collaborative hosting program” said Greg Magirescu, the City’s Manager of Arts & Cultural Development.
