City of New Westminster receives Planning Institute of BC award for rental housing policy
New Westminster – The City of New Westminster Planning Division was recently awarded a Silver Award of Excellence in the category of Excellence in Policy Planning from the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC) in recognition of their rental housing policy. The award was presented to Beverly Grieve, Director of Development Services, on May 14, 2014 in Vancouver.
These awards honour the best in professional planning work undertaken by members in communities and regions across British Columbia and the Yukon.
“It’s an honour for our department to be recognized by the PIBC for this innovative policy,” said Beverly Grieve. “It’s creating a positive change in the supply of long term rental housing in New Westminster.”
The PIBC awards jury member who presented the award commented that New Westminster’s rental housing policy is a well thought out complex initiative and is practical, with 500+ rental units already committed. The presenter also pointed out that the policy is easily transferable to other communities.
