City of New Westminster recognized with the Global Meetings Industry Day Influence Award
New Westminster - The City of New Westminster has been awarded the Global Meetings Industry Day Influence Award of 2016 for commitment to the meeting and event sector. This award was presented to the City by the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) British Columbia Chapter during the 20th Anniversary of National Meetings Industry Day in Canada and the first Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) at Anvil Centre in New Westminster.
“We are delighted that New Westminster has received the GMID Influencer Award,” said Mayor Jonathan X. Coté. “I’d like to thank everyone we work with; hotels, restaurants, florists, and the various other organizations that make New Westminster such an attractive conference destination. We look forward to many more years of working together to raise the profile of New Westminster as a world-class meeting and events destination.”
The award was created to recognize people or organizations outside the direct industry which have supported the development of meetings and conventions or the development of policy and programs impacting the industry.
“We are very proud to have the City of New Westminster’s efforts recognized through the GMID Influence Award,” said Blair Fryer, City of New Westminster Economic Development and Communications Manager. “Anvil Centre is truly a place where culture, commerce and community meet and is putting New Westminster on the map as a top meeting and conference destination in Metro Vancouver.”
Anvil Centre which officially commenced operations in September 2014 is located in the heart of downtown New Westminster. Anvil Centre has hosted more than 500 meetings since opening and was recognized with a 2015 Royal City Builder’s Award in the Best New Commercial Development category.
