New Westminster – On Monday, October 28, 2019, New Westminster City Council approved the reorganization of City committees to better align with the corporate strategic plan. Under the new structure, six new task forces, five new advisory committees, and three new staff technical committees have been established, with several preexisting committees collapsed into the new committees.

“It is important to organize our committees to more specifically and effectively address our seven new strategic plan areas,” said Mayor Jonathan X. Coté. “I invite anyone in the public who wants to get actively involved in our community to join one of our new committees and see their work directly impact our city.”

The new committees will address the following City strategic plan areas:

  1. Affordable Housing
  2. Culture and Economic Development
  3. Environment and Climate Action
  4. Facilities, Infrastructure, and Public Realm
  5. Reconciliation, Inclusion, and Engagement
  6. Sustainable Transportation

Over the next year, the City will engage with the Youth Advisory, Seniors Advisory, Multicultural Advisory, and Restorative Justice Committees to provide a framework for the Reconciliation, Inclusion, and Engagement priority area. A list of all 2020 committees can be found on the City website at www.newwestcity.ca/committees.

Recruitment for the 2020 advisory committees is currently open. Existing committees will continue to serve until the end of January 2020.
