New Westminster, BC – The City of New Westminster is pleased to announce that Q to Q Ferry service will resume operations to connect our community and provide safe options for travel. Starting November 12, 2020, the service will operate seven days a week between the Quayside and Queensborough neighbourhoods. Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 9:15 am and 3:00 pm to 7:15 pm; and weekends and statutory holidays, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A comprehensive safety plan has been developed to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and crew. Regular ferry users will notice some changes to the service, including reduced passenger capacity onboard the vessel (six passengers and two crew), mandatory masks for anyone over the age of two, and changes to payment methods. High-touch areas will be cleaned between crossings and a full cleaning will be done after shifts and between crew changes.

“I am pleased staff have been able to develop a safe and robust plan to support the return of the Q to Q Ferry. This service is an important component of the City’s Seven Bold Steps by providing an alternative to driving and enabling people who are walking or cycling to connect between downtown New Westminster and Queenborough,” said Mayor Jonathan Cote. “It’s wonderful to be able to connect our city once again.”

The ferry service will continue to be operated by Bowen Land and Sea Taxi (BLaST). Fares are the same as previous, with individual tickets, punchcards, and monthly passes available onboard with tap and exact change, or online. Leashed animals will not be permitted in the cabin but may ride on the back deck with their owner.

The Q to Q Ferry has been operating between Queensborough and Quayside since May 2018, beginning first as a pilot project, and becoming a permanent service in 2019. The ferry service suspended operations on March 20, 2020, in response to the public health order for social distancing.
