New Westminster – The City of New Westminster is pleased to announce it will recognize the 10 year anniversary of Westminster Pier Park with an evening of history, activities, and cinema on Friday, June 17, 2022. The community is invited to a variety of activities prior to the start of the movie at 9:20 pm and will receive limited giveaways and prizes from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

“It’s hard to believe that Westminster Pier Park is already 10 years old! The creation of the park has completely changed our city and played an integral role in revitalizing our downtown,” said Mayor Jonathan Coté. “Over the past decade, Westminster Pier Park has provided a place for our community to gather, relax, and enjoy nature. I look forward to seeing how the park will continue to transform in the years to come.”

Westminster Pier Park officially opened on June 16, 2012, winning a variety of awards and was nominated as the number one boardwalk around Vancouver in 2015. The park is uniquely built with equal parts built on land and water, supported by 3,600 pilings. Westminster Pier Park connects visitors to the Fraser River with a variety of amenities including a 325 metre waterfront boardwalk, festival lawn, concession, elevated viewpoints, grass, trees, gardens, benches, accessible picnic tables, a basketball court, public art, and children's play area.

In September 2020, the Timber Wharf section of the park caught fire and burned for more than 10 days resulting in the loss of the iconic art installation, Wow Westminster. This unfortunate incident also saw the loss of other amenities including the sand volleyball courts and urban beach. After an extensive cleanup effort, the park reopened to the public in April 2021.

The City of New Westminster wishes to bring the community together to celebrate this unique park by inviting all residents and visitors to join the celebration of Westminster Pier Park’s 10 year anniversary with an evening of fun activities and memories.
