Background

The Boundary Road Drainage Pump Station is located at the southwest corner of Boundary Road and South Dyke Road and drains the Boundary Road catchment. Over the last 20 years, major shifts in land use have been instrumental in shaping the type of growth that has occurred in Queensborough. The pump station originally constructed in 1979 was near the end of its useful life. It has been rebuilt to accommodate the growth in the area and meet updated flood resilience planning requirements.

PROJECT FUNDING

Total Cost: $6,500,000.00

Of the total cost, City received:

• $750,000.00 from the UBCM – Community Emergency Preparedness Fund
• $960,000.00 from the City of Richmond.

KEY ACTIVITIES COMPLETED

1. Construction of a new concrete wet well including piping and pumps
2. Install permanent sheet piling and piles for site densification
3. Supply and Install a new generator set
4. Construction of a new electrical building and MCC
5. Installation of new discharge pipes
6. Demolition and removal of existing pump station wet well and equipment
7. Raising of adjacent dike to 4.5m

These key activities:

1. Enhance the resiliency of the Queensborough area in responding to emergencies
2. Brings the pump station to current provincial standards
3. Improves the capacity and lifespan of the Boundary Road Drainage Pump Station
4. Improves environmental outcomes (clean environment) through reduction of flood damage.
