Four-Month Front Street closure starting August 31

Bridge Connector lane closures: Starting the night of Monday, September 21, for approximately two nights from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Royal Avenue on-ramp closures: Starting the night of Monday, September 21, for approximately three nights from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Overnight left lane closures: Starting Friday, September 18, left lane closures in both directions on the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will be in effect for approximately two weeks for south approach realignment work.

  • One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained, and access to the multi-use path on the east side of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will be maintained.

Four-month closure of the Front Street truck route starts August 31

Starting Monday, August 31, a closure of the Front Street Truck Route between Begbie Street and East Columbia Street will be in place for approximately four months for crews to complete construction of a retaining wall along Front Street.
  • Front Street Mews will remain open and access to businesses in downtown New Westminster will be maintained at all times.
  • Nearby residents may hear noise associated with construction activities.
  • While this closure is in effect, trucks will be required to use official truck routes (which exclude Columbia Street at all hours, and Royal Avenue after 9:00 pm). Regular traffic will be detoured to Columbia Street.
An additional closure of the Front Street Truck Route is anticipated to start in spring 2027 for Pattullo Bridge deconstruction over Front Street and the railway lines.
