Milling and paving on Seventh Avenue between 18th Street and 20th Street is anticipated to begin on September 28 and continue for approximately two weeks (weather-dependent).

• Expect some parking restrictions to accommodate the necessary staging areas.

• Expect temporary road closures, traffic delays and sidewalk closures during construction. 

18th Street (Eighth Avenue to Tenth Avenue) is anticipated to be completed by October 8.

Nanaimo Street (16th Street to 18th Street) is anticipated to be completed by October 9.

Paving from August to November 2026: Starting in August, the second phase of paving work will begin as part restoration works for the West End Sewer Separation and Watermain Replacement Program in New Westminster.

Construction will include roadway milling, asphalt paving and pavement marking restoration, where required with the goal of improving road conditions and neighbourhood safety.

  • 18th Street Catchment - Tenth Avenue to Fifth Avenue

  • 20th Street Catchment – Area enclosed by 20th Street to 16th Street and London Street to Fifth Avenue

  • Sixth Avenue – from 13th Street to 14th Street 

Some parking disruptions will occur on impacted roads to accommodate the necessary staging areas. We respectfully ask that residents and visitors not park in these areas.

Expect temporary road closures, traffic delays and sidewalk closures during construction. Alternate access points will be provided, and advance notice will be given.

Following paving, crews will undertake site restoration, including general clean-up, to return the area to a safe and fully functional condition.

PROJECT DETAILS

The project will include sewer separation work, installing green infrastructure (rain gardens), and replacing water mains that are at the end of their service life and due for replacement. The water main and sanitary sewer replacement program is intended to renew our aging infrastructure and to improve quality and capacity where required.
