West End Sewer Separation and Watermain Replacement Project

Sixth Avenue between 18th Street and 20th Street will now be closed until April 20th, 2026. The extended work is due to contractors locating unexpected infrastructure during excavation, resulting in the need to redesign and relocate some of the utilities. 

Traffic Impacts

• Full road closure of Sixth Avenue between 20th Street and 18th Street, 24/7
• Buses that normally run along Sixth Avenue will be re-routed to Eighth Avenue and return to their normal route at 12th Street. The #101 and #155 routes will be affected. 
• Some on-street parking will be removed temporarily during this period. The City's Transportation division will be monitoring the parking situation and modified as needed. 
• Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place to maintain safety.

Please be advised Sandpiper Contracting LLP is scheduled to start utility upgrades the week of November 17, 2025, along Eleventh Street from Third Avenue to Sixth Avenue. 

Duration: November 2025 - Spring 2026 (Weather dependent)

Impacted Roads:

Eleventh Street: Third Avenue to Sixth Avenue.  Road will be closed in segments to local traffic only. Temporary property access restrictions, as well as parking will be impacted. Please obey “no parking” signs as they will be moved daily. Temporary sidewalk restrictions.

PROJECT DETAILS

The project will include sewer separation work, installing green infrastructure (rain gardens), and replacing water mains that are at the end of their service life and due for replacement. The water main and sanitary sewer replacement program is intended to renew our aging infrastructure and to improve quality and capacity where required.
