Rotary Crosstown Greenway (5th - 8th Street)
Project Details
The City of New Westminster is enhancing the Rotary Crosstown Greenway along Seventh Avenue between Fifth and Eighth Streets to provide a safer, more comfortable, and attractive route for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, and roll.
As part of this work, the corridor will be upgraded with protected bike lanes, improved pedestrian crossings, new landscaping, and refreshed road surfaces. A mid-block raised crosswalk between Sixth and Eighth Streets will increase safety and visibility for pedestrians. The design reflects feedback gathered through public engagement and supports the City's broader goals for active transportation and accessibility.
Construction is now underway and will be completed in phases to minimize disruption.

Project Update
December 23, 2025
Prior to the holiday break, crews successfully completed the majority of the curb and sidewalk installations across the project site. This significant progress ensures a solid foundation for the final stages of the greenway and best possible site conditions over the holiday break.
Work is scheduled to resume on January 5th, with the team focusing on the north side of the corridor. Upcoming tasks include the completion of the dedicated bike lanes, remaining curb and sidewalk segments, and the final landscaping, planting, and site restoration to integrate the greenway into the surrounding environment.
Project Timeline
- Holiday Maintenance: While active construction is paused, the contractor will periodically visit the site to inspect safety fencing, security, and environmental controls.
- January 2026: Full mobilization begins on January 5th to finalize the north side infrastructure and greenway amenities.
- Substantial Completion: The project is on track to reach Substantial Completion by the end of January 2026.
What's Next
- Resume Construction: Crews will return to the site on January 5th.
- Milestones: Substantial completion is expected by the end of January 2026.
- Final Paving: The "top lift" (final layer) of pavement will be scheduled as soon as weather conditions are warm and dry enough to ensure a smooth, durable finish.
