Catch Basin Marking Program Form

Safety Guidelines

Your safety is our top priority. Please adhere to these guidelines while participating in the program:

Prioritize Roadside Safety

  • Adults should always supervise children and teach them about road safety.
  • Stay Alert and mind your surroundings. Stay on sidewalks or boulevards and never step into traffic. When marking catch basins on corners, be extra cautious of traffic from all directions.
  • Wear a high-visibility safety vest and have a designated traffic lookout.
  • For everyone's well-being, leave dogs and very small children at home.

Handle Paint with Care

  • Our paint is lead-free, but please avoid spills, especially near catch basins.
  • Supervise children closely and follow the instructions in your kit.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and gloves.
  • If you're sensitive to paint fumes, consider acting as a traffic lookout instead.

Your Personal Safety Plan

  • Inform someone of your location and estimated return time before you start.
  • Carry emergency phone numbers for police and ambulance.
  • Always respect private property and be aware of dogs in the area.
  • Only mark during daylight hours. Mark only city roadways; obtain approval before marking on strata or private property. Choose residential or low-traffic areas where you can be safely visible for more than five minutes.

Report Hazardous Materials

Do not attempt to move or pick up hazardous materials like needles, broken glass, or deceased wildlife. Report them to New Westminster’s Engineering Operations: 604-526-4691 |
