New Westminster Youth Centre adds more awards to trophy case

New Westminster, BC - New Westminster’s Youth Centre has been awarded 2010 Royal City Builder’s Awards for excellence in two categories: Modern Institutional Development & Universal Accessibility. Both categories recognized the architects, designers and builders of the new facility for their quality and dedication in design excellence.

In addition to the Royal City Builders Awards, the Youth Centre was nominated for three additional honours: a 2011 Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver Commercial Building Award - Community Facility, recognizing the winning efforts of new institutional, commercial or industrial building projects; a 2011 Union of British Columbia Municipalities Award - Community Excellence Awards for Best Practices, recognizing how an existing program or service was improved or revised, fulfills a void previously not addressed and exemplifying excellence transferable to other communities; and a Royal City Builders Award – Sustainability, acknowledging cleaner and healthier communities by recognizing developments that incorporate various sustainable features and initiatives in to their projects.

The awards and nominations speak to the new youth centre’s excellence in design and intergenerational service delivery model.

“We’re proud of these awards and of the overwhelming support we’ve had from across the community since the new youth centre opened last year,” said Sandon Fraser, Youth Services Coordinator for the City of New Westminster. “The community’s support means a lot to the youth of our city who use the facility on a regular basis.”
