New Westminster offers residents new way to share feedback

New Westminster, BC - In preparation for the City of New Westminster’s Master Transportation Plan open house, including Pattullo Bridge consultation, taking place on Thursday, May 3, 2012, the City will be utilizing the services of PlaceSpeak to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to provide input.

PlaceSpeak is a new online community-consultation platform that connects people to local issues and encourages inclusive, informed participation and decision-making. By connecting citizens' online identity with their residential addresses, PlaceSpeak enables people to authentically voice their opinions on the topics that mean the most to them, such as transportation issues in New Westminster.

“PlaceSpeak transforms the way residents interact with location-based issues by enabling conversations relative to proximity,” said PlaceSpeak founder, Colleen Hardwick.  “Users are geo-authenticated and can participate in multiple consultations related to a variety of topics based on their location.”

Residents who would like to participate in the Master Transportation Plan open house, but would like to do so from the comfort of their own home, can view all the materials distributed at the event and complete the online questionnaire. Registering with PlaceSpeak is free and all information collected is private.

“PlaceSpeak will be a valuable tool for the City of New Westminster as it provides another opportunity for residents to share and provide feedback on a particular issue,” said Mayor Wayne Wright. “It also will allow us to connect with residents within specific areas giving us the confidence that we are receiving feedback from the people that will be affected the most.”
