New Westminster, BC – The City of New Westminster is excited to officially open the Front Street Mews tonight at the inaugural Fridays on Front event in Downtown New Westminster. The much anticipated opening of the Mews marks another major step in reconnecting the community to the waterfront and is a key component of the City’s Riverfront Vision plan. The Mews replaces the western portion of the Front Street Parkade that previously occupied the area.
“I’m very excited to be able to officially open the Front Street Mews and see residents and visitors alike enjoy this beautiful new space,” said Mayor Jonathan Coté. “This project is a symbol of how we can breathe new life into neighbourhoods and the Fridays on Front series is the perfect event to showcase that.”
The Mews has been designed with a widened sidewalk, street furniture, lighting, street trees, traffic-calming, planters and parking spots to facilitate a wide range of activities year-round for everyone to enjoy. The new space also brings people to an often overlooked, but historic area of the city, creating tourism opportunities and commercial activity.
Fridays on Front, hosted by the New Westminster Downtown Business Improvement Association, will take place every Friday, July 7 – August 25 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Front Street Mews. Join the celebration!
