New Westminster, BC – Beginning Monday, August 28, 2017, the City of New Westminster will officially launch its new online video streaming platform for council meetings. The new streaming service, hosted on the Granicus platform, will make viewing past and current council meetings easy with agendas, reports, minutes, and video all available in one convenient location.
“We are pleased to implement a new web streaming service that will bring a greatly improved service to the community,” said Mayor Jonathan Coté. “We’re looking forward to working with Granicus to provide a more streamlined and efficient way for people to tune in to council meetings as well as access council agendas, reports, and minutes.”
The City’s decision to upgrade and improve its web streaming tools came after Shaw TV notified regional municipalities that it would no longer be televising council meetings after August 2017. Granicus was selected for its ease of use, compatibility across all browsers and mobile devices, as well as enhanced searching capabilities and the ability to jump to specific agenda items during streaming and archived videos. This new software also creates an integrated public record of City Council agenda, reports, minutes, and video content which are all searchable by keywords and linked to meeting agendas. The new platform is also consistent with several other Metro Vancouver municipalities who also utilize Granicus.
The public can try out the new platform on Monday, August 28th at 6:00 pm by visiting the City of New Westminster website at www.newwestcity.ca/council.
