New Westminster, BC – On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the City of New Westminster announced the development of a new affordable housing project in Queensborough. Women in Need Gaining Strength (WINGS) was the successful proponent for the project after the City released a request for proposals for innovative housing projects at two City-owned sites, one of which was the Queensborough site.

“Affordable housing projects like this one are important in addressing housing challenges faced by many in our city and the province,” said Mayor Jonathan X. Coté. “We’re thrilled to have WINGS on board and look forward to the development of this project to help provide affordable housing for single mothers and their children.”

Women in Need Gaining Strength is a non-profit organization who, with capital funding support from BC Housing, will own and manage the development. The development will include five two-bedroom affordable rental units designed for single mothers and their children.

“It has been an honour and privilege for us to deliver services in the New Westminster community for almost 20 years,” said Ms. Judy Grams, WINGS Board Chair. “We appreciate this opportunity to partner with the City of New Westminster and BC Housing to provide affordable housing to women and children whose lives will be changed by the chance to live in peace and safety in a great community.”

Construction of the project in Queensborough will begin later this month.
