The City of New Westminster Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announced we have received the BC Recreation and Parks Association 2022 Provincial Award of Excellence in the category of Festivals and Events for the “Shine Bright New West” initiative. This award comes on the heels of the 2021 BCRPA Program Excellence Honorable Mention for the City’s re-imagined Remembrance Day Ceremony (2020).

The BCRPA Provincial Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding special events, programs, facilities, and parks which reflect ideas, innovation, and services that have made an impact in the recreation and parks sector. The Festivals and Events category acknowledges innovative events that improve individual and community-level connectedness, social and physical well-being, and engagement.

We acknowledge that special events in New Westminster represent a collaboration between the City (including multiple different departments), community organizations, and neighbourhoods. We are pleased to share this recognition with our entire community. We strived to bring many diverse people, groups, and departments together towards the common goal of building community in our City.
