New Westminster, B.C. – The City of New Westminster is pleased to announce the launch of an e-bike share service starting mid-late August 2024. This safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation option is operated by Lime. E-bikes will be available to rent from designated parking areas across the city, starting with 20 locations in the downtown and uptown neighbourhoods, with 40 more locations to be added citywide over the coming months.
“I’m excited that the City of New Westminster is able to make e-bikes more accessible for residents and visitors. Increasing access to active transportation in our community, not just through enhancing the network but also by providing shared micro-mobility services like this, is both a strategic and climate action priority for us. We are proud to partner with Lime in bringing e-bike share to New Westminster,” said Mayor Patrick Johnstone.
E-bike share was identified as a key support for the Active Transportation Network Plan, and officially adopted into the Master Transportation Plan in 2022. City staff, with support from a consultant, completed an e-bike share feasibility study last year and Council endorsed the service implementation plan in January 2024.
In addition to the environmental benefits of increased use of active transportation in the community, the e-bike share service will support New Westminster’s commercial areas through improved access, increased transportation options for areas with reduced parking, and requiring minimal cost and infrastructure investment from the City to implement the service. Lime's e-bikes can be used on multi-use pathways, park trails, bike lanes, and on any roads where bikes are permitted. Learn more on the City’s website: newwestcity.ca/transportation/e-bike-sharing
