New Westminster – The City of New Westminster and Bowen Land and Sea Taxi Ltd. (BLaST) are pleased to announce the signing of a new five-year service agreement for the continued operation of the Q to Q Ferry between the Queensborough and Downtown neighbourhoods.

The service agreement will be in effect August 26, 2025 until December 31, 2030, with annual funding dependent on the City’s standard budget approval process. BLaST was chosen as the preferred vendor for the new service term following a competitive process.

"The City of New Westminster’s Q to Q Ferry is a valuable service that supports a connected and inclusive community,” said Mayor Patrick Johnstone. “The renewed service agreement ensures that the Ferry will continue to connect people to local businesses, reduce traffic, and provide residents and visitors with a variety of transportation options to get around the city."

The renewed agreement will not affect ticket prices or types; these are reviewed separately by City staff as part of the annual budget process. Currently, ferry fares can be purchased as individual tickets, 10-pass punch cards, or monthly passes, in either full fare or concession rates; children aged 12 and under are free.

The ferry is expected to continue operating with increased service levels in the spring and summer when demand is higher, and reduced service levels in the fall and winter. The current schedule will remain unchanged until the fall/winter schedule takes effect on September 2, 2025.

“Providing a convenient, safe, and inclusive service that connects Queensborough to the Downtown neighbourhood remains a high priority for the City of New Westminster. The new service agreement demonstrates our ongoing commitment to maintaining this important connection,” said Lisa Leblanc, Director of Engineering and Deputy CAO.

Bowen Land and Sea Taxi Ltd. has been the City’s ferry operator since 2018. They use 12-passenger water taxis capable of carrying two wheelchairs and four bicycles per trip. BLaST is committed to following environmental protocol and collaborating with the City on providing a service that is reliable, accessible, and safe.
