City of New Westminster, CUPE 387 and IBEW 213 reach three-year collective agreements

New Westminster, BC – The City of New Westminster and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 387 (CUPE 387), have reached a new three-year collective agreement effective January 1, 2025. The parties commenced bargaining in April 2025.

The three-year agreement affects all City CUPE 387 workers and covers the period of January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027. It provides for a wage increase of 10% over the three-year period (3.5% in 2025, 3.5% in 2026, and 3% in 2027), as well as a $0.25 increase, effective March 28, 2027.

The City and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 213, have also reached a three-year agreement effective April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028. It provides for a wage increase of 10% over the three-year period (3.5% in 2025, 3.5% in 2026, and 3% in 2027), as well as a $0.25 per hour, effective July 1, 2027.

CUPE Local 387 has ratified the agreement, which was then approved by New Westminster City Council, the New Westminster Public Library Board, and the New Westminster Police Board. IBEW Local 213 has ratified its agreement, which was also approved by New Westminster City Council.

Both settlements provide for competitive employee benefit enhancements, support recruitment and retention, advance employee wellness, and incorporate key operational and cost efficiencies. These agreements represent fair, balanced, and financially sustainable settlements.

CUPE Local 387 represents approximately 1,330 civic service workers at the City of New Westminster, the New Westminster Public Library, as well as the civilian workers of the New Westminster Police Department. IBEW Local 213 represents approximately 17 workers at the New Westminster Electric Utility.
