What's Happening
The six-month pilot period (July 2024 - January 2025) for the shared off-leash dog area at Albert Crescent Park has concluded. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback via email or attended the City staff park visits on October 21 and 24, 2024. Visit the Pilot Project page for more information.
Planned Changes to the Off-Leash Area
- Fencing: The off-leash area will be fully enclosed by a fence to ensure the safety of both dogs and people, in compliance with the City's People, Parks, and Pups Strategy.
- Hours of Operation: Dawn till dusk
- Construction Timeline: The timeline will be posted on the city's website and on-site signage.
Project History
In early 2022, City Council adopted the People, Parks and Pups Strategy to support a proactive approach to sharing New Westminster's limited park space among those with and without dogs. As a 10-year framework, the Strategy provides recommendations for the planning, design, and management of dog off-leash area activity across the city. We are excited to provide this new amenity for the community and believe it will be a valuable asset for dog owners in the Downtown neighbourhood.
