Fitness Equipment Project Update: Revised Locations
Please note that the proposed locations for the fitness equipment have been updated. Due to unforeseen access limitations identified during discussions with the contractor, two original sites are no longer viable. Please see attached map to see the new proposed locations. The planned fitness equipment remains the same.
The City of New Westminster's Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the installation of new outdoor fitness stations along the popular Komagata Maru Perimeter Trail in Queensborough. This project aims to enhance the outdoor space and provide more diverse and accessible fitness options for all.
Fitness for Everyone:
We are committed to creating an inclusive fitness experience for all members of our community. The selected equipment caters to a wide range of needs, including individuals with physical disabilities, older adults, and fitness enthusiasts. To further enhance accessibility, the fitness stations will be installed on rubber surfacing, making them more comfortable and approachable for those using mobility aids.
Fitness Circuit Details:
The fitness circuit will consist of three stations strategically placed along the trail, featuring a total of four pieces of equipment: an elliptical machine, a hand cycler, pull-up bars, and parallel bars.
Station 1: Pull-Up Bars
Primarily for upper body strength training, offering exercises like pull-ups, assisted pull-ups, and hanging leg raises. The bars will be sized for adults with a height of 240 cm from the ground.

Station 2: Parallel Bars
Parallel Bars: Wheelchair-accessible stations designed for beginners, advanced users, and rehabilitation patients. They can be used for various workouts, including dips, pull-ups, and lunges.
Station 3: Elliptical Machine & Hand Cycler
Elliptical Machine: Provides low-impact exercise targeting the lower body, upper body, and core muscles, while improving coordination.
Hand Cycler: Enhances cardiovascular fitness and strength, accessible to wheelchair users.
Location: The fitness stations will be located at various points along the Komagata Maru Perimeter Trail.
Construction Schedule: We expect construction to start in April 2025 and be finished by early summer. Please check this page for updates, including the confirmed completion date.
During the construction period, please be aware that there may be intermittent disruptions or temporary short-term closures of the perimeter trail to accommodate vehicle access. Detour signage will be posted as needed. The contractor will make every effort to minimize disruptions and keep the trail open to the public.
