Restoring the Lost Glenbrook Stream

Project Overview

Led by the Mayor’s Youth Climate Leadership Team, the City of New Westminster is excited to support the installation of a new raingarden in Terry Hughes Park, in the greenspace area near the pedestrian bridge and playground, which will be reminiscent of the Glenbrook Stream. A portion of green lawn will be transformed with native vegetation, natural seating elements like logs and boulders, and educational signage to also serve as a new community gathering space.

This initiative will reconnect our community with a buried and piped historic waterway by creating a natural area to manage stormwater and promote local biodiversity.

Project Schedule

Installation is scheduled to begin Monday, September 8, 2025. Completion is anticipated for the week of October 20, 2025.

Construction Impacts

We will make every effort to minimize disruption to park users. Here’s what you can expect during the project:

  • The pedestrian bridge leading to the playground will be temporarily closed.
  • The playground and sports field will remain open and accessible.
