Bus Shelter Upgrade

Our bus shelters are getting an upgrade

Bus shelters across New Westminster are being upgraded. Starting in early November 2026, our bus shelter contractor, Pattison Outdoor, will begin replacing 50 existing bus shelters with new shelters.

What’s Happening

The first ten shelters will be removed in late October and early November (see table below), with the remaining shelters scheduled for replacement by the end of 2026.

During the transition, existing shelters will be removed before the new ones are installed. Transit users can expect a temporary gap of one to two weeks without a shelter at affected bus stops. Signage will be in place at the stop to let transit users know when to expect a replacement. New shelters will be installed at the same locations.

In January 2027, an additional 14 bus stops that currently do not have shelters will receive new installations.

This means that there will be 64 bus stops with shelters across New Westminster, a 28% increase from the current 50 locations. The City has also negotiated with Pattison Outdoor for them to continue to install new bus shelters each year, with the goal of having 100 bus shelters across the city.
