New Westminster Museum, New Media Gallery Currently Closed

The New Westminster Museum and New Media Gallery at Anvil Centre are temporarily closed due to a water leak. The closure is expected to last at least several weeks.

Staff are assessing the affected areas and working to protect the heritage collections, while a restoration company is undertaking remediation work. Some items in the Museum’s storage area have visible water damage, and restoration of these items will be pursued. Collections on display in the Museum were not affected by the leak; however, the Museum gallery space is currently being used to temporarily store and protect items moved from storage.

There was no damage to the artworks or technology on display in the New Media Gallery. The temporary closure of New Media Gallery is due to water damage in some of the gallery walls.

All other areas of Anvil Centre remain open and operational, with the exception of one washroom each on the third and fourth floors that were also affected.

The Museum, New Media Gallery, and washrooms will reopen once the necessary assessment and remediation work is complete and the affected spaces are confirmed suitable for public access.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
