Amy (Yun Ru) Bao
Amy (Yun Ru) Bao is a multidisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She loves interactive artworks that invite people not just to observe, but also engage. Physical interaction and playfulness drive many of her designs.
You can find Amy’s murals and public art projects across the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver, Port Moody, Richmond, Surrey, White Rock, and Chilliwack.
As a multidisciplinary artist with a background in both art and architecture, Amy’s artistic practice is focused on public art due to its ability to be truly accessible. Unlike gallery-based work, there are no physical, financial, or social barriers. She works to transform the seemingly mundane into moments of surprise with playful and beautiful social spaces. She strives to create art that combines a “wow” factor with more meaningful depth.
Amy is often inspired by local nature, wildlife, waters, skies, and layered landscapes. She paints vibrant, flowing organic shapes that fill her artworks with movement. Her style is dynamic and eye-catching. She has a soft spot for unconventional surfaces and geometries, using her architectural thinking to make full use of every odd shape, nook, and cranny to emphasize the immersion of her designs.
