New Westminster Braid Street bailey bridge to re-open tomorrow

New Westminster, BC – The bailey bridge located in the Braid Street industrial park connecting New Westminster and Coquitlam will re-open tomorrow (February 22) at 2pm following repairs. The bailey bridge was closed earlier this month after a routine inspection found a crack in one of the structure supports.

“We’ve worked with our contactor and consulting engineers over the past two weeks to determine and carry out the appropriate repairs,” said Roger Emanuels, Manager of Design and Construction. “New Westminster and Coquitlam city staff have worked together with our contractor to re-open the bridge as quickly as possible.”

New load restrictions will be in affect when the bridge re-opens with vehicle traffic restricted to 15 tonnes maximum. Given the new restrictions, no heavy commercial trucks will be permitted to use the bridge. New Westminster Police will be enforcing the new load restrictions and will be monitoring the area for infractions.
