Twelve Dogs Abandoned at New Westminster Animal Shelter Overnight

New Westminster – At approximately 4:00 am on August 30, 2013, the security guard at the New Westminster Animal Shelter found that 12 dogs had been abandoned on Shelter property. The dogs are currently being housed at the Shelter until homes can be found for them.

A veterinarian was on-site today to assess the health of the dogs and ensure that vaccinations are up to date.

“We want to encourage the public to consider fostering or adopting some of these dogs,” said Sukh Maghera, Animal Services Coordinator. “Our shelter is currently full, so even temporary homes would be welcomed.”

Richmond RCMP is currently investigating the case, as 38 dogs were also left at their animal shelter overnight.

For more information, please contact the New Westminster Animal Shelter at 604-519-2008. The Shelter is located at 231 Ewen Avenue.
