New Westminster Emergency Management, New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services and New Westminster Police Department Work to Determine Cause of Fire that Displaced 68 Residents from Their Homes

New Westminster – On August 29, 2013 at approximately 11:00 am, New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services was notified of a fire that had broken out at the residential apartment building at 222 Ash Street. NWFRS attended the scene, put out the fire and ensured that all residents were safely evacuated.

Approximately 68 residents were processed by Emergency Social Services, of which seven have been temporarily relocated to a nearby hotel and 61 with personal contacts.

New Westminster Emergency Management and New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services are working with the New Westminster Police Department to determine the cause of the fire. The Mobile Command Unit is on site with Emergency Social Services.

All parties involved are working to get residents back into their homes as quickly as possible.
