Anvil Centre celebrating first year of operations

New Westminster – Anvil Centre, Metro Vancouver’s newest conference facility in downtown New Westminster, is celebrating its first anniversary. Anvil Centre officially commenced operations on September 14, 2014.

“Anvil Centre’s vision to become a place where commerce, culture, and community co-mingle is no longer just a vision, it’s a reality,” said Vali Marling, Anvil Centre’s General Manager. “During our first year of operations, our customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with special praise given to our attention to detail, our committed team, and the striking architecture of the building. I can’t help but be proud of how this new conference centre and team have come together.”

Marling attributes the successful opening and first year of operations to a number of factors, including a highly accessible location, services and facilities on par with any downtown Vancouver facility, experienced staff, and flexible multi-purpose spaces that cater to a large variety of events.

“Anvil Centre is a venue like no other, and it has incredible potential on so many levels,” said Mayor Jonathan Coté. “Our goal is to continue to strengthen our partnership with visitors, local businesses and the community, and to serve all on a very high level. We believe that we have had an incredibly successful first year, and we continue to build each and every month on what we have accomplished.”

Since opening in September 2014 Anvil Centre has:

  • Hosted more than 300 events
  • Greeted more than 20,000 delegates
  • Generated over 1.3 million in revenue
  • Served over 20,000 cups of coffee and more than 10,000 signature desserts
  • Welcomed approximately 16,000 museum visitors and 6,000 theatre guests
  • Hosted five different exhibitions in the New Media Gallery, drawing approximately 26,000 visitors

Recently, Anvil Centre was recognized with a Royal City Builder’s Award in the Best New Commercial Development category.

Event bookings for 2015 are well above initial forecasts with close to 220 events already on the books ensuring a sustainable trend of positive economic impact.
