Westminster Pier Park Play Area at Sixth Street

With the completion of the new pedestrian overpass and accessible ramp at Sixth Street expected in spring 2020, the Parks and Recreation Department is engaging the public to help design the replacement play area in Westminster Pier Park. The improved and diversified outdoor play area located below the ramp structure will take advantage of weather protection and viewpoints for a unique riverfront play experience.

We have been reviewing input from the first public open house, pop-up events, and online survey and developing a design that responds to what we heard. We will present the proposed design for the play area at the Second Public Open House.

Tell us what you think! We invite park users, residents, business owners and anyone who has an interest in the community to provide feedback on the proposed design and to share your ideas for the future play space!

Sixth Street Pedestrian Overpass

Construction has now started on the accessible pedestrian overpass connection from Sixth Street into Westminster Pier Park. Undertaken in partnership with Bosa Development, developer of the Pier West project at 660 Quayside Drive, the new pedestrian overpass will extend from the Front Street Parkade (“A” Deck level) at the foot of Sixth Street to the west entrance of Westminster Pier Park. This connection will include both stairs and an accessible ramp option within the park for pedestrians and cyclists.

During construction, the portion of the park highlighted in yellow will be closed to the public; however, all access routes to the park from the River Market and through the park will remain open. Following construction of the overpass and ramp, a new and enhanced adventure playground will be integrated into the site. This project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.
