Victoria Sails Conservation 2024
In 2024, the artwork was inspected and assessed as in poor condition. The canvas sails were covered in thick accumulations of biological growths (moss, lichens, algae, etc.) and severely darkened due to deposits of atmospheric pollutants from nearby car traffic. There were also several small holes around the canvas sail snaps.

The City's Electrical Services team assisted with the removal of the canvas sails which were then sent to Fraser/Spafford Ricci (FSR), a local conservation company with expertise in public art, to clean, repair and oversee the re-installation of the artwork.

The artist, Doug Taylor was engaged at every step of the way, providing important information about the artwork and worked with FSR to safely re-install the sails.
