Whistle cessation coming to Braid Street crossings
On July 13, in accordance with section 23.1 of the Railway Safety Act (Canada), New Westminster City Council passed a resolution directing whistle cessation to be implemented at the Braid Street rail crossings.
The affected railway companies now have 30 days to review the resolution and respond with any concerns or objections before the process can move forward.
If implemented, routine train whistle use at this crossing will end. However, trains may still sound their whistles when required for safety, such as in emergency situations or if crews identify a potential hazard.
This change is expected to reduce noise impacts for existing and future residents in the Braid Street area while maintaining rail safety.
