Recognized Commitment to Business in New Westminster

2019

The City of New Westminster was selected by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) as a top 30 global intelligent community, ranked by broadband. This designation is a result in the City’s investment into Intelligent New West.

2018

New Westminster City Councillor Bill Harper was recognized as one of Canada's Open City Champions for his work on the Intelligent City initiative. 

The BC Economic Development Association presented the City of New Westminster's Front Street Mews project with the 2018 Stan Rogers Memorial Award in recognition for a project (private or public) making the most significant economic impact in a community. 

Also in 2018, New Westminster and the Vancouver Economic Commission signed an Memorandum of Understanding on technology development and deployment. 

2017

The City of New Westminster has been working on the Intelligent City initiative for several years as a key economic driver for our city. On October 19, 2016, the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF)  recognized the City of New Westminster as one of the world’s Smart21 Communities of 2017. The Intelligent Community Forum studies and promotes the best practices of the world's Intelligent Communities as they adapt to the new demands and seize opportunities presented by information and communications technology.

2015

With strong scores in affordability – both in cost of living and cost of doing business – and access to a thriving market (our central location), New Westminster secured a top 3 spot in this year’s ranking of Vancity’s June 2015 “Open for Business: The Top Places to Start Up a Small Business in Metro Vancouver” report.

Also in 2015, New Westminster secured a top 10 spot on BCBusiness’ “Best Cities for Work in BC” for the second year in a row, scoring well in critical metrics such as income growth, population growth and percentage of households with university degrees.

2014

In 2014, BC Business launched their Best Cities for Work in BC ranking which analyzed job markets across British Columbia.  New Westminster ranked in the top 10 (out of 36) scoring well in population growth, people taking transit, and people with degrees.

2013

The City of New Westminster was recognized with a 2013 NAIOP Award for Municipal Excellence in the Most Business Friendly Category from the Vancouver Chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP).
